Default Prom coming up (pointers)

My daughter has a prom coming up this coming Friday March 5th.......i will be taking pictures with my eos 60D and 18-135 lens......i know i will have to boost my iso up to get proper exposure......i am a little confused as to what metering mode i should use....evaluative...partial....spot...or..center weighted?
I also have a 430exII speedlight.
I normally do most of my shooting in AV mode.
I plan on shooting in AL focus AF?
I am going to be shooting in the large jpeg/raw combo mode.
one of my concerns is if i am in a situation where i am unable to use my flash.
This is an important family event for me......so any tips would greatly welcomed and appreciated.
thank you

i would think that flash is a good option use it bounced or with a diffuser like a gary fong lightsphere. av mode will be fine but i would use one shot and iso 400 with the flash
