Phil - for what purpose does she plan on using a 2nd lens - where you have suggested the 100-400? Knowing what she plans to shoot will help us determine if the 100-400 is a good solution.

G'day all

I have had another long chat with my friend ...
In the last few years she had done trips to Alaska - the Antarctic & Africa, and she's now off to the Galapagos later this year then Peru next year

She has a desire for 'better' wildlife images than she's managed to get via her existing camera with its 70-300 lens

I have explained [crop factor] the differences between her APS camera at 300mm vs a FF at 400mm - and she's happy with it and understands image sizes

She is well aware that the 6D + the 100-400 will need a good solid monopod and it is not to be taken off the 'big' boat and into a rubber-ducky runabout ~ she's talking a pocketsized waterproof P&S for those events

I have asked whether she would like a 'travel companion & photographic advisor' but says that her hubby will just have to 'suffer' it all with her
Has Lumix mirrorless & superzoom cameras and loves their amazing capabilities
Spends 8-9 months each year travelling Australia

Phil, the focus system on the 6d would be a poor choice for improvements in wildlife photography. Since wildlife photography is her main concern, a 5dIII is a much better choice.
