Do you need the High-Speed-Sync for fill flash outdoor at higher shutter speed?

What about rear-curtain sync, ie streaking light behind moving object...(instead of in-front)?

... Or exposure compensation?

I'm just beginning to use external flash
Currently have a 380EX

I guess I would use those functions

I'll have to check all the posiible funcionts at the store
wtih MY cam and their flash

Anyway, I thing I'll go with the used 420EX
I prefer Canon always
That's why I didn't buy sigma lenses either

Thanks for your help NHL

Hi Majestic

I have the Sigma EF 500 DG ST (not super) and it works perfectly with the 300D/Rebel. I probably should have stretched for the 'Super' version for FEC alone but have used the FEC hack on the camera instead. Have a look at:

http://www.pbase.com/richiehatch/niamhsparty

Most of these images where taken with the 300D and Sigma Flash. Also I wouldnt be so quick in ruliing out Sigma lens.... I recently purchased the Sigma 105mm f2.8 Macro and can honestly say its amazing (apart from focusing speed but who cares)....! See this link for some of the first shots from it:

Good luck with whatever you choose....

Richie

No problem!
... As long as you realize that the 500DG Super is more like the 550EX in features and power than the 420EX (except for pricing):
o Guide Number is 50 instead of 42 (for that bouncing...)
o FEC on the flash (no need to re-run the hack...)
o Built-in diffuser and catch light
o Muti-Strobes capability
o Cool illuminated LCD panel instead of bare-bone LED indicators
o Ability to be a Master
o Optical slave built-in (no other Canon has this...)

I'll love to have a 550ex or a 500Super too
But both of them are out of my price range (for now)
in a couple of months I'll get one

I also bought my Sigma EF-500 DG Super from an ebay store ...$185 including shipping...brand new. Ebay seller name is "camerabox". I think he raised his pricing though...$200 now including shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=7524396107
