Default Sigma EF 500 DG ST vs. Canon 420EX ? help me decide

I had a 380EX

Now I could buy the Sigma EF 500 DG ST (new) or the Canon 420EX (used)

The price is almost the same, costing the sigma 30 more bucks but having 2 hear warranty

Don't know alot about flashes so I'm hoping u guys could help me

I have a Digital Rebel - 18-55mm / 70-210 3.5-5.6
Take indoors pics :?: at night (nightclubs, bars, etc) , use it as fill, and do some portraits

Thanks to all

As far as I am concerned, the Sigma all the way. I have used both, and I own the 500 DG Super. For the price, you can't beat it.

The 500 DG Super is the only one compatible with Canon!

May be with an EOS film camera not with the Digital camera, especially when it comes to the wireless modes!

... You need at least a "DG" and then "Super" as well (ie with the latest firmware). It has to do with the Multi Pulse Flash cadbility, ie the ability to turn ON anf OFF quickly which is needed in the pre-flash! :P

Check Sigma Website
The ST is compatible also

http://www.sigmaphoto.com/html/flashes.htm

Electronic Flash EF-500 DG ST can be used with Sigma's and other manufacturers' AF 35mm SLR cameras and Digital SLR cameras. It has a maximum guide number of 165 in feet or 50 in meter at 105mm focal length (ISO 100). Projection angle of the flashlight is set automatically to match the lens' focal length ranging from 28mm wide-angle to 105mm medium-telephoto. It incorporates a wide panel that expands the angle of illumination that of a 17mm focal length lens.

ok NHL
it's just that I've read some reviews and they all said it's compatible with Canon and other brands

Taking your advice , in case I decide to buy the sigma, I'll take my Drebel with me and check it at the store.

thanks

dunno
I wouldn't expect it to be compatible with other canon flashes, only with my camera

I'm not going to use slave , remote triggered, etc
way to expensive for me
(I'm in Argentina , your dollar costs us 2.85 pesos..hahaa)
