Default Flash Pictures Question

I noticed when using the DR and taking indoor pictures where Iím in Auto mode with the built in flash that the ISO on my pictures is 400. Is that normal for flash pictures? Is there a way to get a lower ISO on these pictures? Is using Auto mode the right thing to do for flash pictures.
Thanks.

Yes, that is normal as explained in your manual. In auto, the camera will pick and chose settings as it sees fit, including ISO.

Yes, take your camera out of automatic and learn the creative modes.

Not in my opinion. I have found that the best exposures for flash with the 300D is Manual mode. For fill flash, Av and Tv modes work fine. Auto mode is the mode one puts it in when they want the camera to do all of their thinking for them. If you want to control the output of your images, you must take control of your camera and apply solid photographic fundamentals and techniques.
