Excuse me for showing my ignorence....I just got my new sigma 500 flash today! I think its working ok. Tonight, I put the flash in the ETTL mode and shot the rebel in the manual mode. My pictures were ok ( I really had nothing fun to take a picture of).

I have heard that some folks take pictures using FEC? and FEL. What does this mean?

How do I use FEC in conjunction with the flash?

How do I use FEL with the sigma flash? Again this is a new term for me.

Thanks BIG TIME in advance

Flash Exposure Compensation: This feature is used to bias your picture brighter or darker if the normal result of your flash is not to your liking... The problem is this feature is not available on the camera -> you have to enable FEC on the flash unit itself through the back panel menu.
BTW there's a hack posted for enabling FEC on the DRebel: http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...43&forum_id=37

Flash Exposure Lock is used to lock a reading, and recompose if your subject is off-center. This feature is also useful to lock in a measurement if the subject is overtly bright or dark which can cause the camera to under/over expose a picture. This function is accessed by pressing the * button on the back of the camera when the flash is ON (page 83 of manual). It's the same button as AE Lock when the flash is OFF (page 78 of manual)!

Also FYI: http://eosdoc.com/manuals.asp?q=fakeFEC

I have this flash and love it. I dropped it severely the other day and it bounced from 6 feet up and 15 feet right along a marble floor. Rattles a bit now, but still works fine!!!
