i'm on the way to buy the 300D, but notice some sub-exposure with external flash. But i heard about the firmware... is it original? Is it trustable? Can i install it and have no problem?

The firmware you've heard about is a "hacked" version of the factory firmware. That is, someone modified the factory firmware, and it's not approved by Canon. Chances are, it would void your warranty if youinstalled it (or so I've heard).

Many users do like the firmware (especially since it gives them Flash Exposure Compensation). But, install and use it at your own risk.

BTW, there is also a free utility that will change FEC without the need to install new firmware. You can find it here:

... or get an external flash with overide capability: The Sigma EF500DG Super costs about the same as the 420EX, and no software is needed (ie set the compensation on the flash itself)!

It can even do flash bracketing
