I recently bought a 20D. It works fine, no lock ups and focusing seems fine (apart from errors on my part).

I've seen various posts about upgrading firmware.
Is this a must due to early bugs or optional?
Whats your opinions on this?
Is it hard to do and could i possibly damage my camera doing it?
Has anyone got any good links with more infomation?

Surely, if it aint broke dont fix it! Right or wrong?

Thanks
Mike

It depends on the flash cards...
You might not see the problem on the CF cards that you have now, but others in the future might

I had no problems when I bought my 20D. I did both updates and had no problems. Canon may not release all of the changes that a firmwares solves. I would recommend upgrading the firmware.

I have had some problem with the 20D, changing objective the car was out.
Then I removed the battery and the car it ignited.
I have now adjourned the firmware to the version 1.05 and it seems that some is all right.
But to the next occasion I will try' more' approfonditamente.

Mealers-

There was also an issue with changing lens and the camera not reading the contact info correctly.

I would upgrade with the "preventitive maintainence" attitude, just to be on the safe side.

Here is the website that has the update -as well as very easy to follow instructions. I did it using a bottom of the line CF card (if that concerns you) beforeI even took a picture with my 20D- with no problems. Takes minutes to do and may resolve/prevent issues that you may not be aware of (that is- sometimes they offfer updates to correct/fine tune metering, focusing, flash metering, etc.)- so I would recommend checking the site routinely to update.

Hope it helps
