I was kind of torn between the Rebel and the Nikon D70 but now that the Rebel is coming out in black plus the big price differential, it seems to be a no brainer.

With that in mind, does anyone have any idea when the black rebel will be showing upat online stores like Buydig.com?

Also, any idea of what the price surcharge will be--you just know they'll charge a bit more, just like thatextra $20 I paid years ago for my old AE1 in black.

Thanks

In case anyone's interested, I just got an email back from buydig.com stating they have no "determined time" for stocking this.

Isn't the original version the one being discounted? Wouldn't the black version be the same price as the D70, which I believe is $100 cheaper than it used to be?

From what I've found on the internet, the special edition black rebel will be priced the same as the regular gray Rebel.

And according to the Canon website, it is also eligible for the $100 rebate.

As I said, this seems like a no brainer.

7,306 shots with my 300D at car races, horse shows and public events.

NEVER ONCE a comment about the "color".

This has to be one of the stupidist non-issues ever bounced around !!

And like an idiot - here I am responding !

With all due respect, I spent $30,000 on a car and expected to get the color I wanted. Does it make a difference in the performance? It just happened to be my preference.

Same thing with a $800 to $1000 purchase. If black is available, that happens to be my preference, and that's even beforethe comments I've seen here and on other boards that the gray body shows scratches easily.

Of course it's a non-issue, but a non-issue Canon apparently takes seriously or they would not be offering the camera here.

I called nearly every store in my area trying to locate
a black one. Preference only, I think it looks better.
I think it's worth it though.

Once store had it for $50 more than the silver one. I
found it somewhere else at the same price as the silver
one though. The black ones get bought up fast because
many places don't have them, or were sold out and still
had silver ones.

If you want the black, go for it. I held out for two
days to get a black one (amazing, I know). =o)

Just bought a black one. Only one store in my city (Lincoln, NE... about 225,000 pop) carried them. Sold for $980.

Nice camera. My last one I bought was an AE-1 Program back in 1989. One heck of an upgrade.
