I just put in a bid on (Ebay)some filters 58mm, three close ups and a couple of colored ones. Now Im wondering, does the rebel need some special kind of filters being auto focus etc. Someone told me some filters will not work for the rebel.

I think that it is just the linear polarizers that won't work.

Most other filters should work fine. I use a circular polarizer and uv filters currently. ND, skylight and most effect filters should also work.

IR filters will be a real pain without a tripod do to the strong hot mirror built in.

There is also not much point to color filters for use in b/w destined pics.
