Hello all,

I know this is a digicam forum, but as I post here and not on any 35mm forum, I thought I would see if anyone could help with a question regarding a EOS Rebel 2000. The friend who owns the camera has long ago misplaced the instruction manual, and she has not used the camera in quite a while. I am trying to teach her how to use the camera, and most of the functions I can figure out, except the following.

My question is about the mode dial. I know what most of the symbols mean, but I don't know exactly what the letters mean. Can someone tell me if the following guesses are correct or not, and if not, please correct me?

M = manual mode

Av = aperture priority mode

Tv = shutter priority mode

P = program mode (whatever that means)

L in a red square = lock (off)

Green rectangle = ? I have no idea - full auto maybe?

I hope you Canon dslr guys would know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yup you have got them right!

In the "P" mode the camerapicks both the shutter and aperture.

The green rectangle zone is the cameras "idiot" mode, the camera tries to guess what settings willwork bestfor the image it thinks you are trying to take by looking at your focal length and the lighting pattern it sees. It generally does succeed in getting a usable snapshot.
