I recently purchased a Digital Rebel which according to Canon has a 35mm-equivalent focal length equal to approx. 1.6 times the marked focal length. I also purchased a 75-300 mm telephoto lens. Does this mean that the max.equivalent focal length is 300 x 1.6 = 480? What would be the equivalent magnification when compared to a pair of binoculars (i.e. what power of binoculars)? I thought every 32mm equated to one power of magnification. In this example it would be equal to approx. 15x. But this lens doesn't appear to be as strong as a 7x pair of binoculars.

I was goign to add more, but that thread says it all. Read it and if you have any questions feel free to put them here (or there.) We'll see if we can't help clear things up.

I have read this link several times and greatly appreciate you providing it. I also found this tutorial which is quite helpful: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tu...dslr-mag.shtml

Thanks for your help.

So the way I read the second article, it means that for macro, a lens listed as 1:1 is really 1.6:1 and a lens listed as 1:2 is really 1.6:2?

Thanx,
Ron:?:
