I am going on a trip soon and need to purchase a camera. I have settled on the Rebel XT but would need it by the fifth of March. I've called Ritz camera and Wolf to see if they knew when they'd be in. One guy(Ritz) said he didn't believe it would be in by then. Another, said several weeks yet. Is there anyone who will get it the first of March?

Plan on getting a different camera - the Rebel XT will not be available until end of March - at least from what I have heard, sorry.

Thank you, Steve. Maybe I'll try to borrow or rent a camera until then. I think it might be worth the wait. I did contact Jano's Photo Video Superstore and they are accepting pre-orders. Has anyone had any experiences with them?

Never heard of Jano's, and they don't seem to be in the www.resellerratings.comdatabase. Reselleratings is a great place to go to check out on-line stores, for example:

B&H Photo has a lifetime rating of 8.81 (600 reviews)
Ritz Camera has a lifetime rating of 6.23 (59 reviews) and only 5.31 in the last 6 mo.
Adorama has a lifetime rating of 6.61 (121 reviews) and only 5.27 in the past 6 mo.

Personally I only have experience with one on-line purchase from B&H Photo and it was flawless. I'd really recommend reading lots of reviews before making any on-line purchase of camera equipment.

Maybe Jano's is a local retailer that doesn't do a lot of on-line business?

Also be a little weary of preorders. That doesn't mean you'll be the first to get one and depending on their policy they charge you right off the bat. Then you may find out other stores are selling the product before you get yours from a not-well-known store.

It looks like Jano's has a tendancy to overstate retail prices, to make their prices look better.

Whatever camera you wind up with, get it as soon as possibleand make sure it's working right. At this point you are leaving yourself with almost no time for alternatives if what you buy has a problem.
