How do you know if you have a bad copy of a lens? That is, how should you test it and if you feel you do, how do you handle it?

Thanks!

90% of so called bad copies are in the minds of the one testing them. most that test cannot shoot and actually do not understand their own equipment and its operation. for most its a problem of going from a digicam to aDslr and the more then subtle differences the format change brings in such things as DOF and control.

of course obvious things like bubbles in the optics, af that won't af (tha in itself is another story).

they never seen to blame themselves for bad shooting its always the gear. if i actually believed all the stories of bad copies of lenses i'd never buy any canon products because there is always someone [email protected]#$%^&g about how this is bad or that doesn't work.

is the QC at these companies that bad? i somehow doubt it.

but you can always go out and get some resolution charts and rulers and set up a nice fruit basket. then you can shoot them all day and night. but get to know how your camera works first. understand DOF and lighting. then you might see the subtle differences in lenses.
