I just purchased the Canon XT. Would my older Canon film lens (EF 28-80 3.5-5.6) serve as a better all around lens opposed to the kit lens that it came with?

Also, what image recording quality would you guys suggest? It is currently on Large Fine.I mostly take pics. of my children and never print larger thatn 8x10, however I do seem to crop quite a bit.

That lens ends up being a 45-128mm with the 1.6x crop factor. Thats not very wide but for portraits and family snaps it would be fine.

If you have the storage and since you crop pictures then the current settings are perfect.

Thanks for your reply.

Would one be any better for sports? I think they are the same speed. My son has his last basket ball game this Sat. I'm trying to learn as much as I can and get all the settings down before the big game.
