I have testet 20D and Rebel XT with the same(!) objective, making the

same photo at the same time both im time-automatic at F2

EOS20D 1/200 sec. F2 ISO100

Rebel XT 1/80 sec. F2 ISO100

Does the XT Chip needs more light for same exposure ????

I prefer the 20D, its definitive the better camera

No, proper exposure is proper exposure. It doesn't matter what camera you're using from the top of the line digital, large format, or a pocket camera. The XT doesn't need "more light" for the same exposure

What metering mode are you set on? If you were using Canon's equivalent to spot metering on the 20D and it was on a really light area, and you were in a different metering mode which took into account the entire scene it might calculate the scene differently (actually, I guarenty it.)

Did you really point the cameras at exactly the same place in the scene at the same time?

I agree, the 20D is the better camera. But it should be, it costs more.

That's why the 20D has two different types of ON settings. One that works with the dial and one that doesn't. :-)
