I use a USB Compact Flash card reader from Jessops, their own brand one. It was only £17.99 and uses Windows Explorer. I'm going to check tonight that it will work with my new toy-Mac Mini. I inted to use the Mac for my photos etc and my PC for games!

A card reader will basically always beat the camera for transfer speeds (there are a few very high end exceptions.)

All the reviews I've seen show that the best firewire CF readers are faster than the best USB 2 readers. But a good USB 2 reader is still very good. The odds are you don't need the extra speed that the extra money would get you.
