I'm looking for a fast F2.8 normal zoom lens to use in museums / art galleries where flashes are not permitted. My local camera shop rep. recommended the Sigma 24-60mm F2.8 but a viewer mentioned that his copy was terrible.

What do you suggest / recommend?

I agree with Hards80 100% - It's also a full-frame 'EX', Sigma 'Professional' line and you're only using the best center part...

I have a Canon 24-70 2.8L and the image quality is outstanding. The only drawback that I have seen with this lens is the weight (2.1 lbs).

If you don't like the price or weight of the Canon, take a look at the Tamron 28-75 f2.8. Many say that this is a excellent lens.

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 DG EX vs EF 24-70 f/2.8L size wise:

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 DG EX vs Tamron 28-75 f2.8 size wise:

... and some Tamron 28-75 f2.8 XR Di vs Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 DG EX comparison shots: "I've had the opportunity to shoot with these 2 lenses A LOT. This is my 2nd Tamron in the past year, and it's a nice copy. These images were taken March 30th 2005. I realize the Tamron is more popular, but for my money, the PRIMARY REASONS WHY I MUCH PREFER THE SIGMA are for its much more robust BUILD, its faster AF SPEED, and it goes to 24mm WIDE. [Plus, just for kicks, the intimidation factor when you stick 82mm into someone's face you earn instant credibility.] The weight-savings of the Tamron is nice, but all things considered, the Sigma EX compares more closely to the 24-70L (which I sold)."
