Which Sigma 18-50?

There are 2, one consumer model and one f/2.8 EX.

Here are the MTF charts for each

Canon 18-55 USM

Sigma 18-50

Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 EX

I would choose the Canon over the first Sigma. The Sigma EX has a slightly better MTF than the Canon and better build quality, but the Canon has USM. The price difference between the two is roughly $350, so if you dont want the 2.8 and a better build quality, or just dont want to spend $500, go with the Canon.
