i downloaded the windows component from www.microsoft.com/downloads and it works fine now, i can view them in windows explorer and save them to my drive.

After side to side comparisons of nearly all possible settings, I ended up with saturation +1 and sharpness +1, but its preference i guess, and lighting and subject, that's the benefit of 3 presets I guess :-)
