Hi All,

I've had my dRebel for about 2 months. Today I noticed a speck of dirt or dust when looking through the viewfinder. The speck does not appear in any photos though. So I am thinking it must be either the mirror or the viewfinder itself. I am leaning towards viewfinder as I have never had the kit lens off the camera. I did however clean the viewfinder, but that didn't help. Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks,

Trevor

take off the lens and check whether the speck is on the mirror... I have a Pentax analog SLR and never take the lens off, either, but the dust sometimes just comes in

Thanks for the suggestion. Is it safe to clean the mirror with a blower brush or is there another way?

Blower brush (Giotto rocket) not dinky brush type blower, works ok for loose specks. Tip camera down and do not touch mirror with blower.

Could be the viewfinder, it's very hard to tell just where the dust is. I always start with the viewfinder first - just in case. Couple of drops (no more) of rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip, dab dont rub. Blowing on it by mouth, just adds contaminents and creates a surface just made for more dust to settle on.

I shoot horse shows, so you can imagine how often I go through this.
