I'm looking for some sort of case similar to the form-fitting leather cases that I had in the 70's that allowed you to pop off the top half of the case, and take a picture.

The closest I've found is the Canon EH17L, but this has gotten at best mixed reviews. Any thoughts or advice?

Thanks.

Op tech makes neoprene cases for SLRs with lenses attached. I use one when I just want my camera and lens with me.

It really depends on which lens you keep on it.

Lowepro makes some nice cases on the style you're thinking of, in a variety of "depths" to accomidate different lens sizes.
