my 77mm hoya circular polarizer arrived in 3 pieces- the metal holder, the glass and a thin piece of metal. im assuming its broken... looks like the metal band snapped, or am i missing something? should it be in one piece?

it should be in 1 piece.. send it back if you can't fix it..

I suspect that the glass goes in the holder and the thin metal band fits in a groove to hold the glass in place. The glass should fit against a thin "ledge" only from 1 side. There should be a grove about the thickness of the glass from the ledge. If that's the cas, just put the glass on the ledge and gently force the ring into the groove. The thin piece of metal should have a small gap in it so that it will compress enough to to snap into the gap. That's what holds the glass in place. If you can't get it back together fairly easily, send it back.
You might want to call the seller first and see what they recommend.
