i just bought my digital rebel XT off BHphotovideo.com (be in tomorrow, whoo hoo!) and i was wondering if this camera also ran off AA batteries. if anyone can shed some insite on this, i would be greatful. i'm going on vacation this weekend to break in my camera, and want some batteries to back-up the rechargable pack that comes with it.

thanks in advance.

Not in the camera body itself. you can buy a battery grip which will hold the special canon nb-2lh and has a adapter for aa's too. which happens to cost a few hundred more, I was looking at one myself.

but I have to decide if I want to just get extra batterys now, because the normal nb-2lh is good for more than a few hundred photos as is, and just get another battery if I just need a few hundreds more photos. and then get the battery grip which I think hold 2 nb-2lh which extend it's power up time too.

p.s. for a deal on a 2 gig sandisc ultra II card, go see Dell computers, I got 2 for 175.00 each. I see them all over for between 200 and 400 something dollars everywhere else.

The ability to use AA's in the add-on grip is mostly for emergencies.
My 20D can manage 20 - 25 shots before the 6 AA's are dead, suspect the 350d may be similar.

IMHO, a spare camera battery or two will work out much better.

They should do a few magnitudes more if you use it with NiMh rechargeable as an alternate...

I bought a couple of cheapy compatible batteries for my 350D off Ebay for a total cost of about 10 UKPand those combined with the original Canon battery give me all the shooting power I need, well over a 1,000 shots!

Yes most probably with NiMh's, I tried it with the standard emergency type AA (duracell/energizer) just to see what would happen if I got caught somewhere with no way to recharge.

Works but not for very long :-)
