I went to a meteor shower event last night, but I was dissapointed to konw that I can only open the shutter for 30 seconds on my 300D. I thought it could be longer

Is this the case for 300D owners?

thank you!

To have the shutter open longer than 30s you have to be in Manual and select "bulb" exposure. In bulb the shutter stays open for as long as the shutter release button is depressed. To practically use the feature youshould usea remote release so you aren't shaking the camerawhile you hold the shutter open.

I have a canon rebel also. If you put it in the Manual setting (M) then select Bulb for exposure time. As long as you hold the shutter release button the shutter will remain open. To get good pictures in the dark I would use a remote switch and mount it on a tripod.
