I'm very close to purchasing the 20D. Does anyone know if there is a replacement or upgrade coming anytime soon? The 5D is out, so I'm not sure if Canon is on a 12 month cycle to upgrade the 20D, or is it a 18+month cycle which would have something coming out next spring (possibly a 30D?). I'd appreciate any insight. Anxious to get going since my kids are in fall sports, but want to be smart about the purchase. I also understand there will be rebates starting 10/15. Thanks.

Nobody knows except Canon, and they are not saying.
The DSLR cycle used to be about 18 months to next announcement but the manufacturers have been introducing new things randomly lately.

It is not likely there will be anything new before the next big photo show this winter, but who knows.

The secrecy is very intentional; it is done to keep up sales of existing product.

As I usually do, I agree with PeterP.
The next big show is either early next year (Feb?) or in Nov... I forget which. This is so close, I'm sure that they'd hold off any anouncements before then.

Canon is very good about keeping things secret.
They are also good at releasing soon after they anounce.

That last point is something that Nikon needs to learn.

I am hoping for something new next feb. Hope it is more than just a bigger LCD or things like that.

My GUESS is early spring next year. Not sure what will be different. Probably larger LCD and around 10MP since the next Nikon, Minolta, and Pentax camera's will probably have the same 10.3MPCMOS sensor as the Sony DSC-R1, but who knows. I'm excited aboutwhatever they comeout with next!

I'd want in hopes of a full frame DSLR in the 20D range

This is the same question I had since I am looking at a 10D XT 20D or whatever else is coming down the tube...

Price is important but so is is low light conditions as well.

Actually the next Nikon (D200) is a 10.2MP CCD

Obviously, I know that NOW!:blah: I'm still surprised by the fact that they're using a CCD instead of a CMOS sensor. I'm sure the sensor is great though, but I'm sure I'll like the CMOS sensor in the 20D successor better!:blah:
