The converse is true too if you load the camera with a memory card with an image of 25, the camera will continue @ 26 (i.e. rename the IMG####) :-)

I just checked my pics - I'm nearing 4000. I need to take more pics - I have had the camera since June!

I've had a dRebel (300D) for about 18 months now. I've taken 19,167 and I'm still using my original battery and 256MB Viking card. The battery's life is just now getting noticably shorter than when I first got it (a new one's on my Christmas list), but otherwise my Rebel hasn't shown any signs of wear. I keep crossing my fingers that this thing will last for a couple more years at this use level...50,000 shots would be nice since that would mean I spent $.02 a shot through the life of my camera, and I can live with that...a penny a shot is my pipe dream.
