Hi

I am looking to get my first DSLR in the next few months and will be starting with the basics and building up my equipment slowly.

I will be using it for some amateur studio shooting and some portrait work but mostly for landscape and close up work.

I was interested in the 350d after reading numerous good reviews and have just found an offer of the CANON EOS-350D & EFS 18-55mm for £560 and if I buy with my mastercard I get a further £100 off so 460 for that package.

Full package:

Canon EOS-350D
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 II
Eyecup
NB-2LH Lithium-Ion battery pack
CB-2LT Battery charger
Neck strap
USB Cable
Video Cable
CD-ROM: Canon Digital Camera Solutions Disk (Win/Mac)
Instruction Manual

Or is this package really worth the extra spend:

Canon EOS-350D
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 II
Canon EF 55-200mm f4.5-5.6
Canon BG-E3 Battery Grip
Eyecup
NB-2LH Lithium-Ion battery pack
CB-2LT Battery charger
Neck strap
USB Cable
Video Cable
CD-ROM: Canon Digital Camera Solutions Disk (Win/Mac)
Instruction Manual

That is £660 after the £100 back offer.

I would appreciate knowing what you think.

Thanks

Stu

That does look like a good offer on the face of things.

I'd avoid the second offer because that 55-200 lens is of fairly low quality and you can do better for less.

If I were you though I'd ask the shop whether you could get the 17-85 lens with the camera. What kind of deal will they give you on that package?

Not actually been in and discussed what deal they will do me yet, I doubt they will change the lens as it is a canon 'pack' i.e all packed up in a box.

Going to see if I can push price down further or get some other stuff thrown in with the secon pack I am in effect getting the lens for £75 as the battery grip cost £125 on its own, would you say that makes the second pack worthwhile as I will be getting the battery pack at some point.

Just found the same pack for £480 on line with the £100 discount that means whole pack for £380!

That seems good to me?

Did some digging last night, basically it is available at £460 not £380 the £380 was for a cam imported from america which would mean you couldnt get the mastercard offer of minus £100.

Details on the master card offer are here http://www.canonmastercardpromotion.com

and the cam pack at £560 before the discount is here http://www.jacobs.co.uk

Im going to go in today and have a chat and see what deal I can get to further reduce cost.

Hi Stustaff- just thought you would like to know that Jessops is currently price matching every digital SLR sold on any UK website/shop. Plus, you get the bonus of many shops around the country to go to if anything happens to your camera!

Did you manage to buy one? I'm after one, but the best I've seen, which doesn't look like a grey import is Jessops at £580 inc lens.
