The Rebel XT has an optional battery grip which will hold 2 regular XT batteries or 5 AAs. Does anyone know how many shots one might get using either rechargeable AAs or photo-lithium such as Energizer e2?

Not sure, but as a general rule I try to stay away from AA's because they don't hold their charge well over time.

What about NiMH batteries, I am sure it definately last longer. The battery grip uses 6 pcs of AA sized battery. For normal single usage battery, you can try Panasonic Oxyride AA sized battery..
