Using my new 20D, shooting Raw images and trying to view/process the images on my Mac computer through a USB card reader using Canon File Viewer Utility, the raw images are not recognized by the viewer utility and do not display.

When I open the folder containing the raw images and look at the icon, it does not have the proper name structure. It is identified as _MG_0035.CR2 and has a PC type icon.

According to the Canon 20D manual regarding raw image identification, it should be identified as CRW_0035.CRW. Apparently the file viewer utilty ignores it because it is not identified right. FYI JPEG images are opened properly using the file viewer utility.

There is not much in the way of documentation to trouble shoot the problem. Is the camera doing this?-- do I have something set wrong in the camera?

Does anyone have ideas on what the trouble could be?

I resolved my problem after a discussion with Canon service. It was simply a matter of the wrong File View Utility software. The 20D uses Canon EOS File View Utility and the Rebel (my previous body) uses Canon File Viewer Utility. I was trying to use the Canon File Viewer Utility.

I contacted Canon support and they provided me with the proper EOS Digital Solution software disk necessary for use with the 20D---apparently either version 8.0 or 9.1 works. Version 6.1 is used by the Digital Rebel 300D. I am not sure what version is appropriate for the 350D but they (or someone on this forum) will be able to tell you.
