Hi all.

I'm new here, the first of all, I want say hello to all members of these forums.

I have my 5D for 10 days ago, andI am content with it, but I am few disappointed with the quality of the 24-105 in 24mm and wide apertures. In f4 down the sharpness almost all focal range.

Do you know how work 5D + 24-70 L or Tamron 28-75 in this regard.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for my bad English.

The 5D won't do too good with Tamron 28-75 since this is a digital lens by design...
-> your best bet is the 24-70L I'm afraid... although it need to be closed down because @ wide open I doubt if it's any better than the 24-105L.

Personally I don't think there's any notable difference in the EF 24 - 105 f4 L ISand the EF 24 - 70 f2.8 L apart from the obvious (twice the light) if low light shooting is a priority, but the former has the brilliant IS for still subjects.

I've found the 24 - 105 to be very sharp wide open and a great general purpose lens, mind you that's only my opinion.

When I got mine I was torn between the two as they are both superb lens, but what did it for me was that little bit ofextra focal length and the lightness and I must say I haven't been disappointed.

Rico.

I use the 24-70L on my 20D for weddings and would recommend it in a heart beat...
Granted I get the added kick in the 1.6 conversion but I would assume that even with the 5D the results would be outstanding...From 24mm through 70mm, the sharpness and clearity is excellent.... :-)

I tend to agree with Gypsyrico

You'll be hard pressed to tell if the 24-70L is better than the 24-105L IS (especially @ f/4 down):

24-70L: vs 24-105L IS:

The 24-105L looks actually better on a 1.6x cropped camera according to the MTF (even better still @ the tele end)!
Remember the 24-105L is brand new while the 24-70L is some years away in design...

-> on a 5D the contrast and sharpness drop off quite sharply outside the APS sized sensor on both lenses... which is a common problem for most lenses on all full-frame cameras
