This probably has been asked before but I couldnt find it in the search area. I just got the rebel xt as a gift and I wanted to get a good all around lens like 18-200mm or maybe 55-200mm to extend out my 18-55 kit lens. What would be a good quality lens that wouldnt cost and arm and a leg 200-300 dollar area. thanks

I have just got a sigma 18-200 and i'm finding it excelent. Will be even better when the rain stops and I can stop bothering the cat and get some decent photos.

Sigma 70-300 APO is pretty good and is excellent value. Also a good focal range to go with the kit lens and I'd take it over a 55-200. The 18-200 is a different beast as you can turn your camera into a one lens point and shoot with it which might be worth a bit of quality to some people. You have to spend a LOT more to get a substantially better lens than the sigma.

This is the lens you want.

Accept no substitutes and make sure it's the APO DG MACRO version because Sigma make another 70-300 which is not as good.

This lens is miles better than anything else in its price range.

Why not get the Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DGfor the wider angle?
