Can anyone recommend a compact, holstertypecase that will hold a Rebel XT (350D) with the 17-85mm IS lens? The Canon never-ready cases all seem to be intended for the kit 18-55mm lens. I will be traveling and if I have to bring a big bag I am likely to leave the DSLR home and take my old point and shoot.

What a coincidence. I just happen to be looking at a Tamrac catalog that came in the mail today. You might like to check out their model 5683 6W x 1 1/4D X 7H which take a lens up to 3 1/2" long OR THE MODEL 5684 6W x4 1/4D x 7H which takes a lens up to 4 1/4" long.

I'm using the quantaray pro 20D w/24-105. Seems fine. Not terribly expensive, either, $35 and enough room for the charger and a few odds and ends.

You can find it at Ritz.

I use a pelican 1400 crush proof and waterproof case.

If you really want to protect your cam, it's the way to go.
