I am about to purchase a digital SLR for general family photography. I have decided on the Canon Rebel XT due to the fact that I have a Canon SLR and three fine lenses that I am told will work on the Rebel. I like the Nikon D50 ( have a friend who has one) but feel I would be better served by using my existing lenses. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions?

Body Spec-wise advantage of Rebel XT vs D50:

8MP as opposed to 6MP

3FPS Max Burst as opposed to 2.5

Smaller Body (but worse grip)

Wider ISO range (100-1600 as opposed to 200-1600)

Uses CompactFlash (cheaper and has the potential of being much faster)

The Nikon D50, as you probably have already noticed, is cheaper than the Canon Rebel XT. I got my XT for $600 shipped with kit lens brand new for $600, which I consider to be a phenomenal deal.

The following link may help, but these are reviews with the kit lens. I think a lot of the image-quality differences you will find are based primarily on the lens.

To me it would be an easy dicission with already having 3 lenses, I'm not sure which you have, but with the Nikon, you have to buy those three lenses all over again.

Logically, you should get the Canon.

No, you should get the Nikon. I will buy your lens from you for a very low price so you can help pay for new lens for your wonderful, new D50. Thanks.

Yep.....that's my feeling....I wondered if anybody felt the Nikon was better enough or even to over-ride the advantages of having Canon lenses.

Thanks
