Dear God. Please don't tell me you think the XTi is a better camera because it has 10mp!!!!

That is marketing BS - pure and simple. What is important is that Canon has now driven the 9 point AF down to the entry level camera and the filter cleaning. But, it will take time to see how effective that is. But, I truly lump that into marketing again. I don't blame Canon. The masses have been brainwashed that MP is all that matters and dust is a huge problems on DSLRs. The truth about dust is that it isn't that big of a deal. Anyone whose had a DSLR for a while has probably cleaned the sensor and it really isn't a huge deal.

The truth about MP is that if Canon sacrificed noise control to get to 10mp than it's a sad day. That has always been Canon's strength is it's high ISO noise performance. It's the reason why Canon 20d/30d and Nikon D50 were still better high ISO performers than the Nikon D200 - Nikon sacrificed noise to get more MP because of this insane belief that more MP means a better camera. But, if that's what the market believes that's what Canon has to respond to. Still, the sensor technology will be a nice to have if it works and if the 9 point AF paves the way to bring the 45 point AF to the mid tier cameras then this is great news indeed.

The 10MP is surely sacrificing some noise, however the XTi still can't go to 3200 like the 20/30D can. Obviously now the noise would be even worse if they could.

I am however salivating over the ultrasonic dust removal feature. Oh and what is this improved focusing for apertures wider than 2.8?

If I had it to do over again I may have been lured by the D80's in camera editing capabilities....now that's worth regret.

Hey, i'm always up for more megapixels as long as theres no sacrfices to get them. I wouldnt actually trade in my 20D, but it makes me wonder why they didnt add the new sensor and anti-dust feature to the 30D. It doesnt seem right to have some better options in a lower class camera.
