i've seen the expodisc advertized and wondered if it really makes a difference and my main question is can it be used on auto setting or only manual ?

the instructions i saw explain how to use it with manual focus .if on auto focus will it still give a correct white ballance.thanks

Ibelieve it requires manual focus or else the camera will fail to lock the autofocus and will not allow you to trip the shutter. And of course it is only useful for custom white balance mode, not automatic white balance.

If the camera is left on AI-servo, the shutter will release anyway regardless of the focus is locked or not so you can always obtain a blank image from the expodisc for the WB.
-> The Canon's is on "shutter-priority" when the camera is set to AI-servo AF :idea:
