hi im just doing some photography research and was wondering for the canon 350d would this lens be any good as a telephoto lens?

i dont really understand the aperture set with the lenses. i know the smaller aperture means the faster the shutter speed.

Does anyone know if this lens is any good and what do you think the max.shutter speed with it is? (f.4-5.6)

Tamron 70-300mm F/4-5.6 LD Macro

Although aperture is an important factor to determine shutter speed, There are others like the environment you're in and the ISO settings. Outdoors on a sunny day will have very fast shutter speeds. Nighttime... slower shutter speeds. Simple basics: the darker an area is, the slower the shutter speed.

Here's something that explains the basics between apertures and shutters.

I haven't heard much about the tamron lens, but the sigma 70-300 APO varient seems to get pretty decent reviews.

Lenses don't have shutters (at least not in the current set of slrs), cameras do. The maximum shutter speed of your camera is the same regardless of what lens you stick on it. The maximum shutter speed you can get with a correctly exposed photo is another thing altogether and depends on the available light, the sensetivity of film or sensor and the maximum aperture of your lens.

do you guys think that a lens with an f.stop of 4-5 (lens above) is adequate for every day use and could maybe used for action photograpy?

thanks in advance
