50mm f/1.8 II

Hi folks,

I was thinking of buying this canon lens. I found a used one for about $70 and that guy has taken about 400 photos with the lens. Do you think it is a good deal? Is there a predetermined life of a lens after which the picture quality stars going down?

Thanks guys !

I had mine for 16 years. And it is still working. It is a good prime for the price. New the lens is about 90-100 dollars. And 60-70 is about the going price for the 50 1.8 mkII used.

At the risk of hijacking this post, where is the sweet-spot for the lens? f4?

4.5-11 is about where it is the sharpest with my copy as it may need a bit of calibration

the 50 1.4 starts at 2.8 to 11

there is no real lifespan on optics, provided you don't get fungus or anything in it. so it should be no problem at all.

and yea, f2.8 is quite decent, and by f4 they are about their sharpest.

Got a little question, maybe it fits in here: Can I put this "two-part-lens hood" on the lens "the other way round", so I can put the lens in my bag with the lens hood on? Is it possible to put the lens cap on the lens then? Thanks for your answers :)

Yes ye can, it will fit inverted to save some space.

Sounds good... I guess I can then use the lens cap too, am I right?

Yes the lens cap will fit on it
