Default Inexpensive Zoon lens?

I just picked up a new 300D and I am loving it so far but what I really miss is a strong zoom so I am now looking to add an inexpensive lens for zoom. I was thinking about the 80-200 f/4.5-5.6 II for about $120. Anyone have any opinions on that lens? What about a 70-300 from Sigma or Tamron? I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible but without sacrificing picture quality.

Thank you

The Tamron 70-300 is probably a notch better than the Sigma. For what I read the Sigma only allows macro with this lense at full 300mm, while the Tamron allows 180mm -300mm for macro. Tamron also gives an impressive 1:2 macro. Lens is a bit slow on autofocus, but I think both of them are.
