Default Need Help on Choosing a Second Lens

I have an EOS Rebel XSI with an 18 to 50MM lens. My wife and I will be heading on a cruise in Dec and I want to get a second lens. Looking at either the 50-250 or the 75-300.
I have read on several occasions that the 50-250 is the better lens but looking for advice and opinions. Thanks.

Don't touch the 75-300, it's really a pretty poor performer. The other option is pretty good for the price. The other worthwhile option is the Tamron 70-300mm Di LD (I think those are the letters off the top of my head).

The Tamron VC SP etc. etc 70-300mm has been given good reviews by every group I've read, but it hasn't been tested by slrgear. I'm thinking about grabbing one either before the rebate deadline hits or when I see a qualitative review that allows me to compare it to others.

Of course, it needs to be released for Canon bodies first. I'm guessing that will be soon. It's been out for the Nikon body for awhile.

what is your budget for the lens, If it is under 300 dollars. The ef-s 55-250 is the best in that price point. The Tamron 70-300mm DI LD is not as good, very soft form 200mm-300mm.

The Tamron 70-300 DI VC USD is about 400 dollars, about the same price as the canon ef 70-300mm IS USM. They should be very close in performance. And you really can not go wrong with either if you have the budget for it.
