I have a friend with a nice Sigma 170-500 f/5-6.3 APO lens he bought new and used on a Canon A2E. Question... this is an AF lens, Canon mount, can it be used as is on a EOS dSLR or is there a "chip" or something else needed to convert to digital useage?

Sometimes an older Sigma lens has compatibility issues on a newer camera body. When that happens, Sigma can sometimes "rechip" the lens.

But, in this case, you appear to be talking about an older FD mount lens that will not even mount on an EOS Body (at least not without an adapter). The AE-1 uses a physically different lens mount (FD mount versus EF Mount). Are you sure this is an AF lens?

I've moved this thread to our forum, where you may get some responses from Canon DSLR owners familiar with this lens model.
