Telephoto for my new 20D

I'm looking at the 75-300 USM.

Any comments about its quality would be GREATLY appreciated...

It's a decent lens for the money, although a f/4-5.6 I believe it is not the fastest lens around. I actually have mine up for sale on e-bay, replaced it with a sigma 70-200 f/2.8, and with a 1.4x teleconverter it wiil give me around 400mm. Of course you're talking about $850 or so for the sigma with the teleconverter compaired to a couple hundred for the 75-300 USM.

If you want a good quality inexpensive 70-300, go for for the Sigma 70-300 F/4-5.6 APO Macro Super II. It has no USM, but will outperform any 70-300 from Canon this side of $1000! http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...87&forum_id=65

I just ordered this lens from HotDigital on Ebay for $178.80. (yes the APO super II)
UPS already has it and scheduled delivery is Tuesday. I could have had it 15 bucks
cheaper from Tri State but they have such a bad reputation i couldn't do it.

Now if my XT comes in tomorrow I'll actually have a camera to put it on.

This was the first lens I bought for my 20D. I knew it wasn't the best (far from it) but for the price it seemed like a good deal.

I have since sold it on ebay (for 25% more than I paid in the shop :lol and bought a 70-200 f2/8l IS.

Looking back though on the 75-300 pics, they were not too bad. Chromatic aberration was a problem at times though and the focus was slow. The build quality felt cheap and the end wobbled as it extended.

This was one of the first photos I took with it.
