I have been looking at purchasing a Canon 50mm macro lens with a 1:1 ratio. But I also have a tamron 70-300mm lens an was wondering what type ofmag. ratio I could achieve by slapping a canon 500d close up lens on it. I know the final quality would not be as good as the dedicated lens, but I have used a 500d prevoiusly ona 300mm point and shoot zoom camera with good results. However, if the 50mm will give me more magnification, I would prefer it even at the additional cost.

thanks in advance

This table should tell you (i.e. similar to the EF-75-300): http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/canonFAQ.htm#3Q5
