I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the Sigma 12-24mm wide angle zoom lenses on the Canon 5D or any full frame camera. Sigma say it is for both digital and 35mm but I heard it caused vignetting for a user on his 5D at the 12mm end of the range.

I am in the market for a wide angle zoom for my 20D and the Sigma fits my needs but thinking of the future I do not want to buy alens that will not be suitable if I later upgrade to a 5D.

Thanks for any info.

Well there's not much choice in this range:
1. There's no other zoom that can go this wide on a full-frame is there?
2. There's nothing remotely close to its price either for a full-frame super wide zoom

-> It is my main landscape lens (alas only on a 1.3x crop):

... and it works on my old EOS-3 film camera

-> But other folks have use it on the 5D: http://www.pbase.com/clandk/sigma

I would very much expect that lens to vignette at 12mm.

12mm is very wide. Most wide angle lenses (particularly zooms) vignette to some degree.

But if you want a really wide angle rectilinear full frame lens you have no choice. The sigma is the only show in town.

I have one - which I use with my 20D, and am looking forward to see what it can do on the 5D when I upgrade.

It's not especially sharp, but the build quality is very good, and for what it does it's the only game in town.
