I always thought lens hoods wererecommended for strong outdoor lighting conditions. Now I'm not so sure. Can someone explain their function to me? Is it recommended tohave one for every lens? At a recent press function I saw a lot of pros using them indoors.

Lens hood is primarily used to suppress strong light coming from the sides...

It can come from the sun or its reflections - Wide angle are much more susceptible, so indoor with strong side lit(from reflections or other flash) could present a problem too
