IMHO: 340$ is a good price for the ef85 f1.8.
The next step up to the ef 85 f1.2 L requires a lot more cash for not much more speed.

Another question, how do you post your

pictures to this forum? I would like to share some volleyball pics I have taken.

Thanks!
There are two ways. One is to use the upload function within the forums - look in the various gallery forums there should be a sticky post on how to upload photos.

The other method, which I use, is to have a 3rd party web service that allows this type of linking - smugmug, pbase and others allow such a link. My website is really operated by smugmug so any photo on my site I can link to an email.

Can't tell you a list of all on-line photo sharing sites that allow this though (like I don't know if flikr or winkflash or snapfish or many of the other free sites allow it).

And, in reality, for sports work if 1.8 isn't fast enough you can't see anyway

I've never tried to shoot sports with anything faster than 1.8 but the focal plane is so slim at 1.8 I can't imagine trying to deal with say 1.4 (unless you're at hyperfocal distance for the lens in which case your sharpness is going to suffer anyway).

I agree with Peter - you're not going to find a new 85mm 1.8 much cheaper than that.

The 85mm f/1.2 L is not designed for speed - If anything it's slower than the f/1.8 in achieving focus... at least the old version

I guess this is "too little, too late"...but Canon will be offering a double rebate on the 85mm f1.8 (among others) come Oct. 15. So if B&H hasn't shipped your lens out yet, you may want to cancel and re-order on the 15th.

Among other items that will have rebates/double rebates...

17-40 f/4L USM $45/$90
24-105 f/4L IS USM $50/$100
28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM $20/$40
70-200 f/4L USM $35/$70
100-400 f/4.5-5.6L USM $40/$80
16-35 f/2.8L USM $50/$100
24-70 f/2.8L USM $50/$100
70-200 f/2.8L USM $45/$90
70-200 f/2.8L IS USM $50/$100 15/2.8 $30/$60
20/2.8 $20/$40
28/1.8 $20/$40
50/1.4 $20/$40
85/1.8 $20/$40
85/1.2L $50/$100
100/2.0 $20/$40
100/2.8 $30/$60
135/2.0L $25/$50
180/3.5L $50/$100
200/2.8L $35/$70
300/4.0L $45/$90
400/5.6L $45/$90
75-300/4-5.6 $10/$20
60/2.8 USM Macro $10/$20
430 Flash $10/$20
580 Flash $15/$30
MR-14 Flash $15/$30
MT-24 Flash $30/$60 5D $300/$600
30D $100/$200

That 5D w/ $600 rebate if purchased w/ any other item in the list looks mighty sweet!
