I am looking at an older lens for my 20D. From what I have been told it will only work at 2.8 and will error if moved from that. Will it hurt my camera? Is it worth spending the money on? It is a Sigma lens.

I don't think it'll hurt your camera, but if the lens is real old, you may find something elsewon't work besides changing the aperture. I would not take a chance on an old Sigma lens...get something recent. Which lens is it btw?

There's a couple of Sigma 28-70's at Sigma's web site...from the looks of it, both lenses are not that old...should work fine with your camera.

28-70mm f2.8 EX DG: http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/len...mp;navigator=2

28-70mm f2.8-f DG: http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/len...mp;navigator=2

Is your 28-70 either of the above? If so, and if you experience problems with your camera, Sigma should still be able to fix it...the typical fix is flex board replacement as I've read often.

I have a model 28 - 70 EX 2.8 constant apeture. It works at all settings I've used it on 10d, 20d and 5d without any problems.
