Hi folks,

I'm looking to buy a new 300mm lens after discovering my Tamron is as I suspected cheap, nasty and generally useless.

I've heard the 70-300mm USM and 90-300mm USM lenses are decent enough for a novice but I want to be sure I'm buying the correct one for my 350D.

I've seen this and this. Which would be my best option?

Thanks for reading

The 70-300 is, indeed a good lens - neither one of these is the 70-300. You've got the 75-300 which is a pretty poor lens. And, I don't think I've ever seen this 90-300 before.

If you want to stay with that vendor, here is the lens you should be looking for:

Adam,

If you're wanting a 70-300 for less than $400 USD you're going to have to accept some problems. Sigma makes a nice 70-300 for around $200 USD. It's a bit soft after 200mm and doesn't have HSM (sigma's fast focusing motor) - those are it's main drawbacks. But in that price range every lens out to 300mm is going to have some problems. They may not be CA, but there will be something not great about it.
