Hi all,

I am soon to purchase a Canon 30D and am looking at an alternative to the Kit lens.

I have heard very mixed reviews on the Canon EF-17-85mm IS USM F4-5.6.

Just wondering if any one has used the Sigma AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC macro, and are you happy with it.

Or some other idea for a comparable lens.

Thanks for your help

Mugmar

I have a 350D and use the sigma 17-70 lens on it most of the time.
Here are a few shots taken a couple of weeks ago.

I have this lens on my 30D and also on my Konica Minolta 5D and liked it so much I got it when I moved to Canon. The macro is great too as mine will focus to the front of the lens rather than the 20cm they say.

I looked at all other options and apart from not being f2.8 it is almost perfect (well OK and IS).

After reading several reviews and your helpful comments I think I'm gonna give this lens a try!!!

Sel, those Pics havegreat colorand are nice and sharp. I really love the Praying mantis shot

Camerageak and Mark, Your comments about changing to this lens and staying with it when changing camera brands really make me think this is the right lens for my needs.

Thanks again for your help.

Mugmar

P.S. I'll post some pictures takenwith it after Christmas:?|
