I compared it to kit 18-55 . Regretably my copy of 10-22 is rather soft @ all focal length fromwide open F3.5 to F4.5. Only @ F8 I can call it very sharp. At 17 mm it is no better than the kit ... Is it supposed to be this way, or I got a bad copy?

I took all the test pictures using a tripod and time mer shutter.

Here is a link to the test:

Please advise, I can still return this lens.

Hi, it is hard to tell from the size of the shots you have posted but it should be sharper than the kit lens.

Have a look at the following links that have details of both lenses.

It could be a focus problem with the camera, or that the light was too low (the slow shutter speeds would suggest you were working ina poorly lit place.

Have you done any other tests in any better lighting conditions?

Mark

I sent I back, and got anothet copy. The new one is indeed very sharp. I did the test in the same conditions, and I 'm very satisfied with the results.
My only wish Canon(and others) should be more accurate with QA when we are talking about 700$ lens.

Thank you

Glad that you got it sorted. It is not just $700 lenses that people have issues with, if you look through forums you will see examples where people with much more expensive lenses have issues. I sometimes get the impression that no QA takes place they just assume that manufacturing standards are nowadays pretty high that they don't need to check them out.
